When Privy is the better choice
- You want email, SMS and popups from one company
- Privy sends the campaigns and runs the automations too. PopupGenius sends no email at all, so you would still need an email tool.
- You want someone to plan it with you
- Privy’s Shopify listing offered dedicated strategists at $150/month. PopupGenius is self-serve, built and supported by one founder.
- You want a long track record
- Privy launched on the Shopify App Store in 2015 and collected thousands of reviews there. PopupGenius is new and has none yet.

- Your email already lives somewhere else

Questions about Privy and PopupGenius
- Is Privy still on the Shopify App Store?
- On 26 October 2026 its listing at apps.shopify.com/privy read “This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store.” Privy’s own website still offers its plans. Look at the listing yourself before you decide, since that can change.
- What happens to the subscribers I collected with Privy?
- They stay where Privy put them. Privy’s pricing page says collected contacts sync to Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix and to tools such as Klaviyo. PopupGenius adds new signups next to them and does not need the old list.
- Does PopupGenius send the welcome email with the discount code?
- No. The popup shows the code with a Copy button on the spot. A welcome email is the job of the email tool you already use.
- How do I switch?
- Turn off the Privy displays you are replacing, so a visitor never sees two popups. Install PopupGenius from the Shopify App Store, or paste its script tag on any other site. Then describe the popup or pick a template, and publish.
